Managing Director – Rabogajane Busang
Rabogajane has over 18 years experience in intellectual property evaluation, protection and commercialisation. He has strong contracts drafting and negotiations skills, with over 15 years in contracts management. He also has extensive experience in developing organisational policies and leading inter-departmental initiatives fostering collaboration and improving workflow.
Rabogajane has a unique combination of science, intellectual property law and business management background. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and completed Patent Board examinations in South Africa. He spent 5 years at one of the leading Intellectual Property law firms in South Africa, Spoor & Fisher. He then joined the Medical Research Council in South Africa (SAMRC) as Division Manager - IP & Business Development and went on to become head of the Technology Transfer Office. While at the SAMRC, he was involved in the licensing and commercialisation of various technologies including diagnostics, medical devices and other biotechnological inventions and creating spin-out companies.
Rabogajane participated on boards of a spin-out company, Gknowmix (Pty) Ltd, and a professional association, Licensing Executives Society International - South African Chapter. He was also the country lead for a European Union funded quantitative and qualitative IP research project on access to medicines with partners from Switzerland, Brazil, United Kingdom and South Korea.
Over a period of three years, he provided training & mentoring to Sherbrooke University students completing Masters in Intellectual Property & Biotechnology. He also completed Executive Programme on Intellectual Property & Strategy at Harvard Business School in Boston, United States where he also received training on Harvard Negotiation Principles and approaches. He also completed Emory University Executive Training on managing and valuing business ventures. In 2007, he spent some time at the McGill University’s Centre of Intellectual Property & Policy (CIPP) as a visiting scholar and gained valuable knowledge and experience.
Rabogajane obtained a Masters of Business Administration (MBA - executive level) from the University of Cape Town Graduate Business School (GSB) which had strong focus on Systems Thinking methodologies. He had an opportunity to lecture to the Executive MBA class of 2014 and went on to become an external examiner for the Executive MBA programme.
Before enrolling for the MBA, Rabogajane was enrolled for a BCom Law degree and completed sufficient courses to progress to a BCom Hons degree without the need to complete the BCom Law degree. The BCom Hons degree dropped when he was accepted for an MBA.
Rabogajane has been in the United Kingdom for about eight years working as Senior Manager for Contracts and Intellectual Assets for GALVmed, an organisation involved in the development of veterinary vaccines and treatments. While at GALVmed, Rabogajane worked on high value contracts and intellectual property transactions involving companies in the pharmaceutical industry. He is passionate about connecting entrepreneurs from UK, US, Europe, South Africa and other countries and facilitating commercial transactions between the entrepreneurs.
He enjoys all sorts of sports and is very keen on honing his golf skills.
